Zahara de los Atunes

This relaxed and peaceful location is an oasis of calm and nature with a certain hippie touch characterised by unspoiled beaches and crystal clear waters.

This village of tuna fishermen has become one the most prestigious tourist destinations in Spain.
Its excellent climate makes it an attractive destination year-round and is particularly popular with tourists from Central Europe.

BEACHES

A long beach of white sand preserved in part because it falls with in a military district. With moderate waves and a constant wind it is a secluded and intimate location, particularly in the areas furthest from town.

In the vicinity of Cabo Plata, there is an area of exclusive chalets, quiet beaches and an exuberant natural landscape.

The beach is reached by a narrow road that winds along the side of the mountains offering spectacular views of the sea and the luxurious private villas.

The Playa de los Alemanes is a small bay which ends at Punta Camarinal. This is a very quiet area with few services on offer, adding to the feeling of seclusion. The beach has strong currents and waves and caution is recommended when swimming.

Beyond Punta Camarinal there stretches a fantastic beach, almost totally isolated with pine forests reaching to the shore. It can be reached from the lighthouse by following a difficult winding path.

ACCOMMODATION

Zahara offers a growing range of accommodation of all kinds: apartment complexes, houses in town, private chalets, hotels, hostels, etc.

TO EAT

Zahara has a wide range of gastronomic options. Fish predominates and, of course, tuna, which is generally served with onions. Seafood and fish platters are also typical dishes.

RECREATION

Apart from the beach there are many ways to spend time in Zahara, particularly water sports, while there is a wide range of beach bars and small restaurants to keep visitors occupied.

There are a number of sporting options: the wind in the area makes it ideal for windsurfing or kitesurfing. It is also popular with scuba divers although the currents require caution. Hiking and cycling are also popular pastimes.
