OTHER DESTINATIONS FROM VEJER
The province of Cádiz is one
of the most varied and attractive regions in Spain. It has countless
attractive destinations and offers a unique combination both
beach and countryside.
Vejer is the point of departure to tour the area
given its central and well-connected location within the province.
Apart from the local destinations described in this section,
it is well worth taking the car and visiting some of the many
charming locations. We recommend the following:
Cádiz: Famous for the friendliness of its residents,
the city of Cádiz offers some of the most picturesque spots
in Andalucia. Especially within the old city, which is reminiscent
of Havana.
The city has magnificent beaches, repeatedly awarded
for their conservation and cleanliness, as well as charming
streets and neighbourhoods within the city centre. Don’t miss
the excellent local cuisine and festivals, especially Carnival
in February and Holy Week.
Around the capital there are numerous interesting locations
such as Puerto de Santa María, a magnet for
lovers of seafood, fried fish and good wine, Puerto
Real, Chiclana, San Fernando,
Chipiona , Rota or Sanlucar.
All of these destinations have excellent tourism services and
sports and recreation facilities (golf, sailing, diving, etc)
and home to such well-known locations as Valdelagrana,
Sancti Petri, Costa Ballena,
etc.
Another popular destination is Jerez
de la Frontera, home of the wine of the same name and
land of horses and Flamenco artists.
Tarifa and Campo de Gibraltar:
Wind capital of Europe, this is a popular destination for wind
and kite surfers from across the globe. Tarifa has excellent
beaches and an international atmosphere where windsurfing has
become a part of the unique personality of the town. Hundreds
of shops offer all types of products and services related to
water sports.
Wide range of good food and accommodation. Another attraction
of this area is its proximity to Africa, with the possibility
of taking a ferry across the Strait in one hour. There are also
interesting excursions to see whales and dolphins on their way
through the Strait of Gibraltar.
While in the area, the famous and exclusive resort of Sotogrande
and the colony of Gibraltar are also well worth a visit.
The Costa del Sol is also close by.
The interior: The interior region of the province
of Cádiz is also rich in attractions. The picturesque towns
of Arcos de la Frontera, Grazalema
or Zahara de la Sierra reward the visitor with
their typically narrow Andalucian streets with white-washed
buildings and flower-filled patios redolent with the sent of
delicious home-cooking.
Many of these “White Towns” are located on routes which have
been organised similar to the famous “Ruta del Toro” and “Ruta
del Vino”. These routes offer the possibility of enjoying an
ancestral culture rich in Arab traditions with a unique folklore,
cuisine and crafts.
Outside Cádiz. Vejer is the perfect starting point for the exploration
of Andalucia. Seville lies less than two hours
away by motorway and from there you can continue on to other
destinations such as Cordoba or Granada.
Málaga and the Costa del Sol are also just
hours away, as is Huelva, the land of Iberian
cured ham and wide endless beaches.
